Switch

Also known as network switch, it is a small piece of hardware that connects computers together within a Local Area Network (LAN).  Switches are similar to HUBs, but typically have more intelligence built into them.  They are capable of inspecting data packets and determining their source and destination therefore sending them in the proper direction quicker.
