Controls

Controls refer to safeguards in place protecting the integrity of a network. Controls can range from technical, operational, and management. Examples include the physical security of a room with network access such as a keycard lock. Controls can also refer to the ability to monitor user access on a network.

DETER stands for Defense Technology Experimentel Research testbed. The testbed is used by DHS-funded researchers and educational users to test and evaluate cyber securities technologies. DETER provides necessary infrastructure networks, tools, methodologies, and processes required to support national testing of emerging and advanced security technology. This framework allows researchers to experiment with a number of parameters that represent the network environment. DETER is a way to test new technology designed to protect critical infrastructures of countries.
